Lighting the way with Luminaria

In a subdivision in my hometown in Louisiana called Kenilworth, every year the entire subdivision participates in a tradition of luminaria making for an absolutely beautiful drive through showing. According to tradition, they are put out to light the way for the Christ Child...thus, they are once again lit on Christmas Eve. Make your own Luminaria.

Rating: Medium-High. Simple to do, inexpensive. Very nice overall effect especially if you can get your neighbors to do the same. Rating goes even higher if neighborhood joins in. Not broadly engaged in.

MAKE LUMINARIES

Supplies: Paper Bag, sand (or pea gravel), small candle.

-Take a brown paper (or white) bag and fold down the top approximately three irose luminarynches to give the bag stability. You can find them online or in retail stores that have fancy designs like the one pictured. You can find them with Christmas designs also.
-Pour about four inches (2 to2 ½ cups) of sand into each bag.
-Place the candle in the center of the sand, making sure it is firmly placed and standing straight.
-Place the bags about four feet apart on your walkway for the best effect.
